hi there:
I was wondering if people experience pressure near the temples, whether from tantra yoga or yoga. I did tantra yoga several years back and still do it some and although have benefited from it, I have experienced headaches. I just started yoga several months ago and enjoy it and yet now I feel pressure near my temples.
I wonder if I am not preparing my body enough.
It feels like energy is being blocked and is not flowing properly. I don't feel it when I exercise or do yoga. It is more when reading and thinking, stressed, etc. I wonder if it is my body's way of saying don't think too much. The old way of doing things isn't working anymore.
Any tips would be helpful.
Namaste.

Re: pressure near temples
Tue, September 16, 2008 - 9:11 AMIn the Taoist systems I practice, this is a sure sign of a blockage in the head or neck area, or an accumulation of too much energy/heat in the head.
Simple 'pressure' is not necessarily bad, as it is just a sign of energetic movement, but if it is uncomfortable then this can be problematic.
I am an advocate of styles that use the entire flow of the "microcosmic orbit" to work on bringing energy from the head back down in the body.
In practicing Hatha yoga i would keep the breath smooth and even and not try to do too much with the various bandhas... practicing asana can open up the channels quite well, but should not be preformed too vigorously at first in issues such as this.
At least these are some things that have worked for me and mine.

Re: pressure near temples
Wed, October 22, 2008 - 10:29 PMThanks for your response. The pressure has subsided. Interesting you say heat since I currently have too much heat in my liver, per my chinese medicine doctor. I have had it in my lungs before. I did some treatments which have helped.
I also did some breathing techniques learned in Tantra Yoga and that has seemed to help.
I will continue to follow it.
Thanks again.
Namaste
